Entrepreneurs in Training: A program behind the walls of Soledad Prison | My return

My time with Defy Ventures, Inc. Entrepreneurs in Training (EIT) program has been a profound experience. My initial visit to Soledad Prison left me deeply humbled, impressed, and filled with hope.

Stepping into that space for the initial Business Coaching Day, we were welcomed by the EITs; the energy was contagious.

Months later, returning to hear the EITs incredible business plans was impressive and exciting. We listened to their plans, offered suggestions, and watched their ideas evolve into viable businesses. But this wasn’t just about business development; it was about their renewed confidence, resilience, hope, and developing an entrepreneurial mindset.

This can be life-changing for individuals who have been torn down and treated as though they have nothing left to give.

When the voting process concluded, we shared a delicious meal as well as deep to light-hearted conversations. Person to person with no preconceptions; the lines almost blurred.

When the EITs family arrived, I saw the tears of joy and pride for their loved ones who were graduating. I was humbled to witness this and overwhelmed with joy to see this transformation.

Hope is real and unstoppable. Sometimes it’s the only thing that keeps someone taking that next step. Thank you, Defy, for letting me be a small part of this beautiful journey!

I just signed up to attend the next Business Coaching Day at Solano State Prison. If you’re interested to learn more about it, Defy Ventures volunteer opportunities. Perhaps your company can adopt this organization.
