National Thank You Day
We don’t really need a “National Thank You Day” to remind us to say “thank you,” do we?
Here are a few things to think about, relating to how or when we say “thank you”:
- Is there a difference when someone says “thanks” instead of “thank you”?
- How do you feel when you’ve held the door open for someone, and they do not acknowledge you with a “thank you”?
- Are there circumstances when saying “thank you” is not enough?
- Do you feel it is humiliating to say “thank you”? (Really, I’ve had someone say that to me.)
- Do you believe that adults don’t really need to say “thank you” to a child?
- Is saying “thank you” not necessary if the cashier has an attitude?
- Do you say “thank you” using the universal hand-wave when someone lets you merge into traffic?
Thank You Notes: Are they outdated?
Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone. ~G.B. Stern
I don’t believe they will ever become outdated.
First of all, everyone enjoys receiving a letter in the mail. Secondly, because so many people no longer send hand-written notes of thanks, you’ll certainly make an impression and become one of their favorite people. Lastly, it takes effort; effort to purchase a thank-you note, effort to sit down and think of something to say, effort to find a stamp, effort to find the person’s correct spelling of their name, their title and an address.
Who will you thank today?
