7 discourteous things that your coworkers wish you’d stop doing.
We all have a habit or two that coworkers have accepted as charming or quirky. But then there are those habits that are irksome or annoying.
Do any of these hit a nerve?
1. Stopping in the middle of the hallway to scroll or text. Forcing everyone to walk around you. Worse is when you decide to take a step as they walk around you, inevitably bumping into each other.
2. Forgetting to reply to texts, emails, etc. Forcing your coworkers to follow-up, send reminders and put their task on hold, pending your reply.
3. Retelling the same ongoing drama. Forcing your coworkers to fake interest or concern as they repeatedly offer advice or resources which you never take.
4. Pressuring coworkers to sign your latest petition, hate who you hate, or donate to your “fund-me” account. Forcing your coworkers to hide from you, make excuses to avoid conversations, or lie about their personal beliefs.
5. Leaving your splish-splash all over the bathroom sink counter. Forcing your coworkers to walk away with wet shirts that absorbed the wet mess you left.
6. Arriving at work, unbathed. Forcing your coworkers to turn away, sniff whatever is in their mug, suggest you meet outside, cut the conversation short, or just gag.
7. Taking a call or checking your phone in the middle of a conversation. Forcing your coworkers to feel awkward and less than your stinkin’ phone.
Final Thoughts:
Working from home has created a sense of individualism, concerned with only ourselves. Which is normal. However, the habits that come from working from home, alone, aren’t always welcome in the workplace. Like how often we shower or change our socks. Or leaving our stuff all over the place. Or our eating habits that have become more relaxed.
My all-encompassing programs are great for a workplace to help remind everyone of those little things that differentiate our presence from comfortable to professional.
The above tips are general, subject to interpretation, specific circumstances, and personal perspective. There are always more options. If your concern is ongoing and/or escalating, seek assistance from a trusted source.
